Summer Wayfarers Program
In the summer of 2023, Rachel started a weekly “community clean-up walk,” where students from the district joined her to walk a 4-mile loop of their small town, cleaning up the sidewalks and streets as they travelled. After that summer, Rachel was determined to build even more options for these middle grade students. The next summer, Rachel started her own weekly, free program where students joined her for leadership and team-building activities; workouts, and continued community service—cleaning up at the local parks and sports fields. The program ran for six weeks, then Rachel organized a free outing to a South Jersey farm where she, the students, and two parent volunteers helped pick the unharvested veggies for communities in need with the nonprofit organization Farmers Against Hunger.
